The 2023 Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry (JSBBA)
Jun-ichi KATO, Chairperson of the 2023 Annual Meeting Executive Committee
On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to have a few words for the 2023 Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry (JSBBA).
While we have noticed the convenience and the effectiveness of the online communication in the last two years, we have also convinced ourselves that we could obtain more information by in-person communication which reminded us of its importance. We had presumed with a hope that the risk of COVID-19 would fade away by the end of 2021, and that we would carry out the Annual Meeting in-person in Hiroshima so as to have an intensive discussion on the field of the Agricultural Chemistry. However, the 6th wave and 7th wave of COVID-19 attacked Japan in February and July-August 2022 respectively; we cannot foresee how the situation would go in future. Under these circumstances, we were obliged to make a hardest decision that we would arrange the general lectures, symposium, Agrochemistry Meeting for the High-School students by the online.
In the meantime, we are planning to invite all award winners to Hiroshima to arrange the award ceremony and the winners’ lecturers on real. We do hope that this small step would lead to the normalized Annual Meeting next year onward.
The ingenuity created by our organizing committee for the 2021 and 2022 meetings have made the online presentation system very effective. We will basically follow as well as improve this system to help your information transmission and exchange more productively.
Here is the outline of the 2023 Annual Meeting.
- The General Lectures
The General Lectures will be arranged through the on-demand system as done in 2021 and 2022. You can check them up anytime you prefer during the conference.
Q&A session will be organized in the ZOOM breakout room so that you may ask questions directly to the speakers.
The award lectures by the winners of the JSBBA Award for Young Scientists, the JSBBA Award for Women Scientists and the JSBBA Award for Young Women Scientists will be held online during the General Lectures session.
- Symposium
18 symposiums will be given during 14th and 16th March through ZOOM webinar system: 6 symposiums per day x 3 days. We will expedite our utmost to arrange the most effective time schedule so that the symposiums of the same academic field would not be overlapped on the same time period as well as those would not hit the same time period of the General Lectures.
- The Sponsored Seminars
These seminars (so called the luncheon seminars in the past) will be held around noon every day during the conference.
- Award Ceremony and Award Lectures
The award winners will be invited to Hiroshima, and the award lectures will be given at the Hiroshima Convention Hall on 17th March, Friday which is the last day of the conference considering the convenience of the general lecture timing of the winners as well as of the symposiums.
These lectures are given by the winners of the 2023 JSBBA Award, the JSBBA Award for Senior Scientists and the JSBBA Award for Achievement in Technological Research.
As mentioned above, the lectures of the JSBBA Award for Young Scientists, the JSBBA Award for Women Scientists and the JSBBA Award for Young Women Scientists will be separately held during the period of the General Lectures.
The award ceremony and the award lectures will be given on the live streaming so that you can watch the footage on time.
- Agrochemistry Meeting for the High-School students
Agrochemistry Meeting for the High-School students which were well appreciated in the 2021 and 2022 Meeting will be held on one single day sometime during 14th and 16th March. The presentation of the research will be arranged by the on-demand footage as done in the last years. Q&A session and the award ceremony will be carried out online at the certain period of core time.
“The Agrochemistry seminar for the High-School students” which will be given by the well-known researcher will be arranged between Q&A session and the award ceremony. This is our new challenge.
In the meantime, the JSBBA “Chemistry and Biology” Symposium and the Frontiers Symposium will not be held at this Meeting. Further, we will not be able to arrange the general banquet with regret though we do consider it very useful.
Lastly but not the least, we would like to have your kind support to make the 2023 Annual Meeting a great success with our mutual collaboration.
We remain looking forward to having your positive participation.
